Dr. Keith Adams goes inside the 2026 NABC Convention & NCAA Men’s Final Four — returning with a blueprint for the future of coaching.

Indianapolis doesn’t sleep during Final Four week. The streets pulse with sneaker squeaks and strategy sessions; agents, analysts, and coaches all chasing a singular edge. I stepped into this environment not just as a spectator, but as a researcher and storyteller for the Odd Coaches Podcast Global Access Initiative.

This isn't a box score. It is a field report from the rooms where the real decisions are made—the breakout sessions and hallway summits that shape the future of collegiate athletics. If you want stats, check the bracket. If you want the truth about where the game is going, keep reading.

01 | The CKA SAVE Project: Research on the Move

My mission in Indy extended beyond the arena. I was on the ground advancing the CKA SAVE Project’s independent research, hunting for the heartbeat of our sport: the coaches and student-athletes living this evolution in real-time.

Armed with CKA SAVE Project and Odd Coaches Podcast gear, I made myself approachable. The "Leave-Behind" Resource Cards I distributed were more than contact info—they were an invitation to become co-authors of the research defining our profession’s best practices. The hunger for these "scoreboard-free" conversations is at an all-time high.

Three Landmark Studies: Your Voice Needed

Data collected feeds directly into published CKA findings and upcoming OCP content.

  1. Student-Athlete Motivation: How are NIL and the Portal reshaping drive in the post-pandemic era?
  2. Collective Bargaining Perspectives: What do athletes actually think about employment status and rights?
  3. Coaching in the Era of NIL: How are recruiting philosophies shifting to survive the transition?

"The data doesn’t lie—and by gathering these insights, we help programs 'Find the Balance' between elite performance and academic success."

02 | Black Coaches Association (BCA) Meeting: The Executive Playbook

The BCA session was a masterclass in the "internal game." The recurring theme? Preparation is identity, not a task.

  • The Work Before the Work: Consistent preparation isn't an advantage; it’s the baseline.
  • Professional Branding: Your personal brand—how you communicate and show up—is your first impression long before a search firm looks at your win-loss record.
  • The PIE Model: I will be integrating this framework into CKA consulting to help navigate NIL valuations:
    • P – Performance: The foundation (stats and output).
    • I – Image: Branding and visibility beyond the court.
    • E – Exposure: The market factors that multiply the first two.

03 | GM Summit: Navigating the "Wild West"

The GM Summit made one thing clear: we are in a period of active testing, and the guardrails are still being built.

The crisis of the moment is enforcement. The ambiguity between a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a legally binding contract is the current battlefield.

  • The Big Ten & SEC Blueprints: We are watching these conferences closely as they develop standardized templates to replace "loose" contract language.
  • The "Blind Transfer" Rule: Navigation of the portal suffers from a total lack of transparency. The result is a "workaround culture" that threatens roster stability.

"The programs that win this era won’t be the ones avoiding the chaos—they’ll be the ones building systems flexible enough to thrive inside it."

04 | CKA’s Strategic Response: Own the Sport, Outsource the Rest

Coaches are being crushed by "Time Poverty." You are asked to be a recruiter, a GM, a legal navigator, and a mentor—all while winning games. Something has to give.

The CKA SAVE Project offers a Grace-Based solution: Let coaches coach. Through our "Un-Internship" (VIP) model, we provide the infrastructure to manage academic oversight and professional development. This allows coaching staffs to offload the cognitive load of off-court management to us. When you outsource the "Resume Gap" to CKA, your program gains the SDS (Structure, Discipline, and Support) required to reach the 100/100 Standard.

05 | Evolution is the Only Strategy

Every handshake in Indianapolis pointed to a North Star: Deliberate, values-driven adaptation.

The coaches defining the next decade are already doing the internal work. They understand that player transitions and narrative control are not peripheral—they are the new context of the job. They also know that having a team in your corner when things go sideways isn't a luxury; it’s a survival skill.

The Odd Coaches Podcast exists to bring you into these rooms. Our Global Access Initiative is closing the gap between those with elite resources and the rest of the coaching world, 52 weeks a year.

The game is evolving. Are you evolving with it?
