Championing the Total Athlete: The CKA SAVE Project Launches Nationwide Search for the "Balanced Student-Athlete"

Posted on December 30th, 2025

A new monthly award honoring middle school, high school, and collegiate leaders who excel in the classroom, on the field, and in their communities.

SILVER SPRING, Maryland – In an era where viral athletic highlights often dominate the headlines, the CKA SAVE Project is shifting the narrative. Today, the organization is proud to announce the nationwide launch of the Balanced Student-Athlete of the Month Award.

This initiative is dedicated to recognizing student-athletes who embody the CKA SAVE motto of "Finding the Balance." It serves as a powerful reminder that success is not an "either/or" proposition; true champions win in both the arena and the classroom.

Shifting the Narrative

The award is open to students from middle school through the collegiate level (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, NCCAA). It addresses the critical need to celebrate character and academic discipline with the same fervor typically reserved for athletic grit.

"In today’s competitive landscape, athletic highlights often outshine academic growth and character," says Dr. Keith Adams, President of the CKA SAVE Project. "We are here to shift that narrative. We want to champion the athletes who lead by example—proving that a winning mindset belongs in the classroom just as much as on the field."

Award Eligibility & Criteria

The search for well-rounded leaders is now open. To be considered, nominees must demonstrate holistic excellence across three pillars:

  • Academics: Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Athletics: Be a significant, dedicated contributor to their athletic team.
  • Community: Actively participate in community service, social change advocacy, or volunteer work.

Taking Ownership: The CKA SAVE Project highly encourages self-nominations. We believe student-athletes should take ownership of their personal narratives and be the primary advocates for their own success stories.

National Recognition

Recipients of the Balanced Student-Athlete of the Month Award (selected October through April) will receive:

  • Official Certification: A CKA SAVE Project Balanced Athlete of the Month certificate.
  • Digital Spotlight: A dedicated feature on the CKA SAVE Project website.
  • National Media Feature: On-air recognition on the Odd Coaches Podcast, sharing their achievements with a national audience of peers, coaches, and recruiters.
